Rangers chief Dave King appears to have fired Celtic up, which probably isn’t the best idea.
Glasgow Rangers supremo Dave King has been fanning the flames of the bitter rivalry with Celtic – and he might be making a terrible mistake.
Celtic are Scotland’s dominant team, and this current Rangers side have a lot of catching up to do. King’s comments risk repeating Joey Barton’s errors last summer.
King first told the Daily Record that he thinks Celtic should be even further ahead of Rangers after the Light Blues spent four years outside of the top flight, and then suggested to the Rangers YouTube channel that Celtic’s title wins without Rangers being in the top flight ‘don’t count’ as they chase Rangers’ nine-in-a-row record.
Rangers’ best chance this season was hoping Celtic get complacent, focus on the Champions League and fall away in domestic competition.

All Dave King is doing is getting Celtic fired up, giving them motivation and reason to see next season’s league challenge as a top priority.
Last summer ex-Rangers midfielder Joey Barton repeatedly talked up his side’s chances of toppling Celtic.
His comments backfired as a re-fuelled Celtic came back better than ever and went on to win the treble in a historic unbeaten season.

Rangers’ best hope was to somehow go under the radar and go about their business quietly this summer.
King isn’t helping, and his comments could turn out to be a real mistake by giving Celtic increased desire to re-assert their dominance.
