Rangers centre-back failed to even make the bench.

Nikola Katic of Rangers looks on prior to the Scottish Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Hearts at Ibrox Stadium on October 7, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Glasgow Rangers defender Nikola Katic’s season hit another frustrating moment at the weekend when he failed to even make the matchday squad.

Katic was not on Rangers’ bench for the win over Livingston and now it appears he has slipped down the pecking order to fourth choice.

Rangers’ starters in defence were Connor Goldson and Gareth McAuley.

Joe Worrall was on the bench, and there was no space for Katic among Rangers’ substitutes.

Katic performed poorly in Rangers’ 4-3 loss away to Spartak Moscow earlier in the month. He subsequently played 45 minutes against Motherwell, before his omission this weekend.

Earlier in the season Katic had been one of Rangers’ star defenders.

The Spartak game has given credence to Gerrard’s decision to drop him, but that was an odd choice, given that the manager had replaced him for the previous few weeks for Joe Worrall. Was his confidence dented?

McAuley getting back to full fitness has put him into first team contention.

The Northern Irishman is on a one year deal. Worrall’s loan also makes him another stop gap.

Rangers need to get the most out of them while they can, but Katic appears to be the fall guy in the mean time.
