Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are reportedly closing in on the signing of a large striker.
According to The Daily Mail, Rangers are set to tie up a loan deal for Umar Sadiq.
The report claims that the Roma striker will join Rangers for the 2018-19 campaign, subject to a work permit.
Fans of the Ibrox club should be excited for two reasons: not only is Sadiq on the books at one of Europe’s top clubs, but it would be a mould-breaking signing by Steven Gerrard.

The 21-year-old striker stands at 6’3 and it looks like Gerrard is planning something that Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty overlooked – the addition of a towering striker.
Be it on loans or permanent deals, Gerrard’s predecessors signed plenty of strikers during their reigns, but none of them as physically imposing as Sadiq and although the Nigerian striker isn’t proven, at least it’s different.
At least the new Gers manager is trying something new and it will be fascinating to see whether the addition of such a powerful striker will benefit the Ibrox side next season.
Alfredo Morelos, if he’s still in Glasgow, will surely be Gerrard’s first-choice forward, but Sadiq could be one hell of a plan-b option and one who can test Scottish defences in ways which no Rangers striker in recent memory could.
