Glasgow Rangers striker Eduardo Herrera is reportedly available to leave Ibrox this summer.
Herrera has not travelled with the rest of the squad to Spain for their pre-season trip, and it would not surprise many of the Ibrox faithful if the 6-1 Scottish Cup win over Ayr in February proves to be his final appearance for the Gers.
No one can be under any illusions that the 29-year-old has not proved to be a good signing thus far. He finished the campaign with just two goals in all competitions, but perhaps Gerrard is being a little hasty writing him off entirely given the other options available to him.
If Rangers manage to sign one or two marquee strikers this summer, then of course, selling makes a lot of sense, but the new season is not too far away and Alfredo Morelos is currently the only other senior striker in the ranks.
It may become a gamble therefore, to drop Herrera who did enjoy some bright moments following his £1.5 million move – fee reported by the Daily Record – and it could certainly be argued that he was not given enough of a chance to impress. Of his 19 league appearances, he appeared in the starting lineup on just two occasions.
And right now, Herrera perhaps ticks a few of the boxes that Morelos does not so keeping him around for the time-being may not be a terrible idea.
He would certainly have a lot to prove in the unlikely event that he did stay, but perhaps it would be worth rolling the dice and handing him a chance in pre-season if the club are still waiting for striker signings.
