The BBC are reporting that Everton have agreed a £30m deal with Sunderland to sign goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer.
While that may seem an eye-watering sum for a 23-year-old with just 31 Premier League appearances to his name, it could actually signal the start of spending by the Toffees, rather than seeing them reigning it in from now on.

That is because the seemingly inevitable departure of Romelu Lukaku – who recently admitted he sees his future away from Goodison Park – could bring in an extremely welcome cash windfall.
The fee being widely quoted for Lukaku, who has attracted interested from and Manchester United according to the Metro, is £100m – which would be a new world record.

That, coupled with the expected cash injection from 50% shareholder and billionaire businessman Farhad Moshiri, could make for an exciting transfer window in the blue half of Merseyside.
Along with Pickford, the Liverpool Echo have also strongly linked Ronald Koeman’s side with moves for Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling and Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen.
