With Ramiro Funes Mori out for the rest of the season at Everton, Phil Jagielka may be playing to save his career at Goodison Park in the final few weeks of the season.

Jagielka looks set to start the remainder of Everton’s matches this season, with Ronald Koeman’s defensive options being limited.

The England international defender has struggled at times this season, with some Everton fans fearing that he is now past his best.

Jagielka has now reached the age of 34, and has had to play a back up role for much of the season to date.

There are now doubts over his future, with Everton reportedly plotting defensive additions in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton will attempt to sign three new defenders in the summer.

Everton want both Michael Keane and Ben Gibson to join them – as Koeman strengthens his back line.

As things stand, that would demote Jagielka to fifth choice centre-back and he would surely be moved on, if that was the case.

It means that the next few weeks could be crucial for Jagielka, if he is to prove that he has a future at Goodison Park.
