Tottenham Hotspur were dumped out of the EFL Cup last night, losing 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield. With that exit a chance of first-team football for many Spurs players went down the pan – including for goalkeeper Pau Lopez.

The goalie was signed from Espanyol on loan in the summer but he has not yet featured for the Spurs first-team – with Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm ahead of him in the pecking order.

So could he end up like a former Arsenal flop?

Emiliano Viviano signed for Arsenal on loan back in September 2013. The deal included a buying option but he never made an impact for the Gunners.

Viviano played a grand total of zero games in his one season at Arsenal and left the club in the summer of 2014 to return to Italy.

It was a surprise move in the first place and one which did not really benefit anyone.

Lopez looks like he is in a similar position at Spurs with no real hope of playing first-team football in the near future and the deal looking like a mistake from all parties involved.

Hopefully he can have a bigger impact at Spurs then Viviano did at Arsenal.
