More than a few eyebrows were raised earlier this month when Arsenal were linked with a move for Fraser Forster.
According to The Sun, the Gunners are interested in signing the 6’7 goalkeeper.
Thing is, Forster hasn’t made a competitive appearance for Southampton since May of 2019 and spent last season on loan at Celtic.
But if Arsenal are interested then the path just might be clearing a little.
Their reported desire to sign him was complicated by Forster’s attachment to Celtic, having intimated that he wanted to sign a permanent deal at Parkhead on a number of occasions last term.
But that won’t be happening now [The Scottish Sun] and with Celtic out of the equation, this one genuinely does have legs, if the Londoners are legitimately interested.
If he has no future with the Saints, which seems to be the case, and no desire to go back to Glasgow, then there doesn’t appear to be much standing in Arsenal’s way here.
The South-Coast club spent £10 million on Forster back in 2014 [The Guardian] but at the age of 32, and only two years left on his contract, the Emirates Stadium club could pick him up for a lot cheaper.
But again, if they’re actually interested in the six-time England international.
