Is Palace’s Zaha better than what Spurs have in Lamela and Son?

Tottenham have been linked with Wilfried Zaha but is the Crystal Palace star better than what they already have?

The chances of Wilfried Zaha leaving Crystal Palace in the January transfer window seem slim after the player himself told the BBC he was going nowhere.

Following the Eagles’ 0-0 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League on New Year’s Eve, Zaha’s simple response when asked if he was staying at Palace was: “Yep I am.”

According to the Metro, City were one of four clubs from the English top flight interested in a move for the 25-year-old this month, along with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Yet in the case of Spurs, while Zaha has had an impressive season to date with four goals and two assists in 16 appearances, is the Ivory Coast international actually better than what they already have at the club in Erik Lamela and Heung-min Son?

In 130 appearances in the top tier of English football, the attacker has scored 17 goals and provided 21 assists. Son, meanwhile, has 24 goals and 13 assists in 82 games and Lamela has eight goals and 19 assists in 93 outings.

Also taking into account the fact all three players are the same age at 25-years-old and that Zaha has previously struggled at a “bigger” side when he made his 2013 switch to Manchester United, there is an argument that he would not be able to break into Tottenham’s team in any case.
