The Tottenham Hotspur youngster could have a bright future in the game.

According to a recent report from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is keeping a close eye on Spurs youngster Oliver Skipp, and one wonders if the 17-year-old could be the heir apparent to Eric Dier.
The England international is only 23 himself, and he will be hoping to stay in North London for years to come. However Skipp is a player in the same mould, not just in that he can operate as both a centre-back and a holding midfielder, but also in terms of the maturity and confidence he shows on the field.

Dier’s versatility arguably held him back in his first few years in the game, but there is no doubting his importance in the centre of the park and it is there where he does his best work for Tottenham, with his £4million move from Sporting Lisbon proving an absolute masterstroke (as reported by the BBC).
Skipp also looks set to stake a claim as a holding midfielder in the years ahead, yet his ability to play as a centre-back means he could be the solution to a number of different problems for Spurs further down the line.

A quality defensive midfielder is hard to come by, so the fact that Tottenham apparently have two, albeit at different stages of their careers, speaks volumes for the work going on behind the scenes in North London.
Perhaps one day Dier will move on to pastures new, but if he does Skipp could be the ideal candidate to ease the blow of that decision.
