Glasgow Rangers have a man at the helm who clearly knows how to get the best out of his players.
According to the BBC, Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes will speak with his club’s hierarchy today after a formal offer from Rangers to take him as their next manager was rejected.
But is the fact that the Gers are moving ahead with a move for McInnes among their worst decisions in recent times, with interim boss Graeme Murty doing a fine job himself?
While offering Murty a long-term contract at Ibrox would be a mistake, giving him a deal until the end of the season would be no risk at all, allowing the 43-year-old to continue the fine job he is doing following the dismissal of Pedro Caixinha.
If Rangers still want McInnes next summer, they could then make their move, but why they are fighting tooth and nail to bring in a boss who has just overseen back-to-back defeats against the very man he is tipped replace is a question only the Gers board can answer.
Murty has got this Rangers side playing the right way, giving Ross McCrorie the chance to shine further forward while also reenergising the likes of Josh Windass and Jason Holt.
He is even getting the best out of Carlos Pena, while David Bates was outstanding in the most recent clash against Aberdeen.
In short, the Rangers squad are playing for Murty and they have moved just seven points behind Celtic in the process, albeit having played a game more.
Murty deserves a shot until the end of the season. In fact, given Rangers recent form it would be daft to consider anything else.
