It looks like the beginning of the end for Glasgow Rangers ace Niko Kranjcar at Ibrox.
Rangers thumped Ayr United 6-1 on Sunday to move into the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, but one man was a notable omission by Graeme Murty.
Niko Kranjcar was nowhere to be seen as his Rangers team-mates put Ayr to the sword and you wonder if it’s the beginning of the end for the Croatian playmaker.
The 33-year-old hasn’t played a Premiership game in 2018 but he did start the 3-0 win at Fraserburgh in the previous round, indicating that Murty saw at least some use for him.
But the former Tottenham and Portsmouth star looked completely off the pace against the minnows and his exclusion from yesterday’s matchday squad might be a big sign that the Gers manager has lost faith in him.
In terms of talent, Kranjcar might be the most gifted player in the Rangers squad, but a lack of form and fitness has stifled his 18-month stint at Ibrox and it seems likely that he’ll leave for free this summer.
Jordan Rossiter is earning £10,000 per week in Glasgow (Daily Mail) so Kranjcar, recruited in the same transfer window by Mark Warburton, must be earning at least that amount and it’s very difficult to justify a contract extension.
Plus, he isn’t going to play regularly ahead of fellow number 10 Josh Windass, who now has 12 goals this season after his brace on Sunday, so it’s looking increasingly probable that Kranjcar is finished at Ibrox.
