Feyenoord striker Nicolia Jorgensen has finally found his form – his prolific run coming after he was linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rather like Feyenoord themselves, Nicolai Jorgensen endured a slow start to the current campaign. The Rotterdammers won the Eredivisie title for the first time this century last season with Jorgensen, the league’s Golden Boot winner with 21 goals, the star of the show.
A difficult second season had set in for both player and club, however, with Ajax and PSV storming well clear at the top and Jorgensen struggling to recapture the prolific form of his debut season at De Kuip.
That is, until links with a move to England intensified. The Mirror (15th November, page 48) claimed that the Danish international centre-forward was a target for Wolverhampton Wanderers during the January transfer window.
And, since then, Jorgensen has scored in three straight Eredivisie games, including a vital winner at home to Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday afternoon. This is made all the more impressive by the fact he had netted just twice in his previous eight games before reports tipping him to move to Molineux emerged.
But whether Jorgensen is priming himself for a move to England remains to be seen. The Sun (3rd December, page 65) claim that Chris Martin is now Wolves’ January priority with Derby County willing to sell.
Jorgensen, however, is a far more rounded centre-forward who has also made a decent impression in the Champions League this season. And while Martin looks like a short-term solution, possibly to be discarded upon promotion, Jorgensen would be a signing capable of stepping up to the Premier League.
