Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United reportedly want to sign Espanyol star David Lopez in the summer transfer window.

According to PericosOnline, Premier League duo Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are interested in signing David Lopez from Espanyol in the summer transfer window.
Mundo Deportivo has claimed of interest in Lopez from La Liga outfit Valencia, and the Spanish publication has also reported that Espanyol want as much as €40 million (£35.3m) for the 28-year-old, who is a versatile footballer and can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder.

Lopez is a very good player who would be a success at Newcastle playing under manager Rafael Benitez, but the do the Magpies really have a chance of signing him in the summer transfer window.
Both Tottenham and Valencia will play in the Champions League next season, while the Magpies could be fighting for survival in the Premier League again.

Newcastle are unlikely to be as attractive to Lopez as Tottenham and Valencia would, although he may not be able to play regularly for Spurs.
Moreover, would Newcastle owner Mike Ashley really pay £35m for a 28-year-old?
Perhaps it would be wise of the Magpies to turn their attention from Lopez and look at other cheaper and more feasible alternatives in the summer transfer window.
