The North West giants are reportedly battling it out in a bid to land Southampton’s international right-back, so we look at his stats to see how he rates.
Clyne’s growing stature has really come to fore in the 2014/15 Premier League campaign, with 45 appearances in the season including four starts for England, in which he has particularly impressed.
For Southampton, Clyne has proved to be a reliable component in Ronald Koeman’s outstanding side, although some of his stats do not truly represent his overall contribution.
Liverpool have already had a £10million bid rejected for the 24-year-old right back, according to the BBC, and are expected to return with another offer. Manchester United, meanwhile, are also on the lookout for new recruits in defence.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United are renowned for having strong full-backs contributing in attack. Clyne definitely has that ability and with Glen Johnson on his way out of Anfield at the end of his contract, and Antonio Valencia filling that role for Manchester United, both clubs are said to see Clyne as the perfect fit for the attacking right-back role.

Clyne is a muscular player with strong running ability, but as an attacking outlet he hasn’t quite been at his best for the Saints this season. Both Liverpool and Manchester United will be looking for an improvement on no assists and a 16% accurate cross percentage.
The ex-Crystal Palace right-back has been more successful in a defensive sense, with a 64% tackles won percentage. In terms of getting forward, Clyne has at least tried, with a 60% successful dribble percentage.
It is perhaps Clyne’s four appearances for Roy Hodgson’s England that have most impressed Liverpool and Manchester United, as the Stockwell-born defender looked perfectly at home on the big stage.
As a standout performer in friendlies away in Italy and Scotland and in Euro qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania, Clyne showed that he can deliver under pressure, and there will be plenty of that if his career takes him to Anfield or Old Trafford in the summer.
