Nabil Bentaleb appears to be set to leave Tottenham Hotspur to join Schalke in the January transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino’s record of bringing through youngsters at Tottenham Hotspur is almost unrivalled.

Pochettino has had a huge impact on the careers of the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Danny Rose, Harry Winks and Eric Dier during his time at White Hart Lane.

However, Nabil Bentaleb’s lack of progression may be the most frustrating issue of Pochettino’s time at Tottenham so far.

Bentaleb broke through at Spurs under Tim Sherwood’s stewardship, and he appeared to have everything required to go on to become a top Premier League midfielder.

The Algerian was comfortable in possession, tough in the tackle, and energetic enough to fit in with Pochettino’s high pressing style.

But questions about Bentaleb’s attitude began to arise, and he was loaned out to Schalke at the start of the season.

Bentaleb has been in great form in the Bundesliga, and he now looks set to complete a permanent move to the German side at the end of the season in a transfer worth £16 million (Sky Sports).

If Bentaleb continues to progress at his current rate at Schalke, then he appears to have the potential to become a leading star of European football.

And, in future years, Bentaleb could become the biggest disappointment of Pochettino’s time at Tottenham.
