The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder no longer has the pressure of being the club’s most expensive player.

Moussa Sissoko arrived at Tottenham Hotspur with a hefty price tag around his neck and, while that has not changed, he is no longer the club’s record signing following Davinson Sanchez’s £42million move (BBC) to North London back in the summer. So could that change have lifted the proverbial albatross from around the Frenchman’s neck, allowing him to prove his worth in the process?
It certainly seems that way, with Sissoko looking far more confident this season and delivering the kind of performances that are generating attention for the right reasons.

It would be foolish to get ahead of ourselves and suddenly declare Sissoko a world-beater, yet the Tottenham player has certainly upped his game and one wonders just how much pressure he felt being the most expensive footballer in the club’s illustrious history.
A full pre-season has certainly played its part, as has the fact that Sissoko is now firmly settled in the capital, but some players deal with the pressure of record fees better than others.
Sanchez is a case in point; a young man who has slotted seamlessly into Tottenham’s back line and whose price tag has barely caused him to pause for breath.

It is testament to the defender’s mindset, and potentially his position on the field, with centre-backs needing a confidence in their own ability different to that of those further forward.
Whatever the reason for Sissoko’s early struggles, Tottenham are now reaping the rewards from his prolonged stay, and that is great news for all concerned.
