The Frenchman joined the club for big money this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur caught many by surprise when they splashed out on the signature of Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United on deadline day.

The decision to spend such a vast some of the money came as a shock to many, considering the usually frugal nature of the Tottenham hierarchy.

But the Newcastle United player had an excellent European Championships in France and was therefore in high demand across Europe.

Since his arrival at Spurs he has struggled to find his best form, which was to be expected. He barely featured in any pre-season for Newcastle after international duty this summer. His condition is therefore off, and certainly not what is expected for a Mauricio Pochettino player.

It is early days yet, but it might be a good early guess to suggest that Sissoko may not have a massive impact in his first season at Spurs.

He would not be the first to do so.

Erik Lamela struggled immensely in his first season at the club, after arriving from Roma for a similar fee to Sissoko.

Now he is a vital member of the Spurs first-team.

Heung-min Son struggled in his debut season at White Hart Lane. He has started his second campaign with five goals in five games and looks to be growing into his Tottenham surroundings.

So even if Sissoko does struggle in his first season at Spurs, he could very well just need a full summer of work under Pochettino to get to the level necessary.

If he does that, then Spurs might have another second-season wonder on their hands.
