Everton are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Fabian Delph, with Marco Silva wanting to strengthen his midfield.

According to the Telegraph, Fabian Delph is set to join Everton, and that could push Morgan Schneiderlin closer to the exit at Goodison Park.

Delph is expected to add competition for places in Everton’s midfield, with Marco Silva’s options in the position now looking stacked.

Idrissa Gueye and Andre Gomes were Everton’s first choice pairing in the centre of the pitch last season, but Delph could put their places under threat.

The arrival of Delph also does not appear to be good news for Schneiderlin, who was already struggling for game time.

The Frenchman made just 10 Premier League starts last term, and even though his performances actually improved towards the end of the campaign, his future has to be under question now.

Schneiderlin has already been linked with an exit from Goodison Park and, given his £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) wage, Everton will surely want to get him off the books, if he is just to be a bench warmer.

The Toffees already have Tom Davies in reserve, who Silva really rates.

And the writing will surely be on the wall for Schneiderlin’s career at Everton if Delph does complete a move to Merseyside.
