Newcastle United signed Mohamed Diame from Hull City last summer.

For Mohamed Diame, it’s fair to say that his first season at Newcastle United has not gone according to plan.
Diame was brought to Newcastle from Hull City in the summer transfer window, and he was expected to have a pivotal role to play as Rafael Benitez’s side went for promotion.
However, despite their being a great amount of faith being shown in him by Benitez, he has failed to impress.
Benitez has picked Diame ahead of Newcastle’s other options, despite his poor form, but the Senegalese international has done little to vindicate the Spanish boss’s faith.
Although Diame did have a spell in December where he showed his undoubted ability, he was not able to sustain that level of play.
And there now have to be questions asked about Diame’s future at St. James’ Park, regardless of what division they are in next season.
If Newcastle do earn promotion, as expected, then they will surely need better to be able to compete in the Premier League.
And, if the Magpies collapse and miss out on going up, then Diame will be guilty of being one of their biggest under performers this season.
Indeed, it seems that most Newcastle fans have given up hope on Diame becoming a success in the North East – with many hoping to see the back of him this summer.
