If Celtic sign Milad Mohammadi, what could it mean for Mikael Lustig?

With the January transfer window only a couple of months away, the rumour mill is churning out some names who Celtic fans might already be familiar with.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are keen on bringing Milad Mohammadi to Parkhead early in the new year, having been linked with a move for the Iran international – valued at £2 million [Scottsh Sun] – during the summer.
A transfer never materialised, but if he does wind up in Glasgow this time then it could be bad news for Mikael Lustig.
The 25-year-old can play on both defensive flanks but, given that Kieran Tierney is one of Europe’s best young left-backs, it seems logical that Brendan Rodgers wants Mohammadi as a right-back.
And that doesn’t bode well for Lustig.
Not only is the Swede turning 32 in December, but Lustig has also shown worrying signs of decline over the past year or so and, with his contract set to expire next summer, maybe it’s time Celtic signed a replacement.
For a while it looked like Anthony Ralston was the heir apparent to Lustig, but the youngster hasn’t really kicked on since returning from a long-term injury earlier this year.
Unless Lustig – who earns £24,000 per week in Glasgow [The Daily Star] – can have a brilliant next few months then it’s likely that Mohammadi is his replacement.
