Rangers attacker O’Halloran has hardly featured since returning to Ibrox.
It has been a tumultuous spell at Rangers for Michael O’Halloran. Moving to Ibrox under Mark Warburton, O’Halloran was frozen out by the former Brentford boss as well as Pedro Caixinha.
The 27-year-old’s lack of game time saw him rejoin St. Johnstone on loan at the start of this season, but he was recalled by Graeme Murty in January with the hope that the former Bolton Wanderers star would finally get his chance at Ibrox.
Fast forward three months, and he’s now been ostracised by Murty. But Saturday was maybe a sign that the Scotland youth international is still in Murty’s plans despite the signing of Jamie Murphy and the form of Daniel Candeias.
O’Halloran returned to the substitutes’ bench for the first time in 11 Scottish Premiership matches, though he failed to enter the action from the dugout as Rangers eased past Dundee with a comfortable 4-0 win.
But the former Scotland youth international is still evidently in Murty’s plans, so does he have a future at Rangers?
With the battle for second still all to play for in the Scottish Premiership this season, as well as Murty looking to keep hold of the manager’s role beyond the end of the season, the Gers will be at full strength until the final fixture.
It means that O’Halloran will not be afforded the chance to shine. Though O’Halloran remains in Murty’s thoughts, an injury crisis seems to be the only way in which Rangers’ number 29 will be able to show what he is capable of.
An interesting summer approaches for O’Halloran, but Murty’s renewed faith may give O’Halloran the inspiration to go on and earn a place in the Rangers side between now and the end of the season.
