The Tottenham Hotspur boss failed to strengthen his squad in the summer.

Tottenham lost at home to Wolves on Saturday – a result that sees them trail league leaders Liverpool by nine points heading into the new year, and the question has to be asked – is their failure to sign a single player during the summer transfer window finally coming back to haunt them?
Spurs have been quite simply superb this season, and they have seemingly improved, despite the fact that Mauricio Pochettino either chose not to, or was not allowed to bolster his ranks in the summer.
The Lilywhites looked bereft of ideas and energy during the second half against Wolves, however, and following the hectic festive period, it could be argued that the lack of strength in depth has finally come back to bite Pochettino.
Tottenham are moving into their new 62,000 capacity stadium, and because of the cost of said move, Poch will have his hands tied behind his back when it comes to transfers.
The Argentine will have to be thrifty in his player recruitment, but it is quite clear to see that he needs January reinforcements.
The Spurs players looked totally broken during the second half against Wolves, and unless they inject some energy for their trip to Cardiff City tomorrow, they will lose that game as well.

Central midfield is an area in particular that needs addressing next month, with Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier all currently out injured.
Tottenham were massively exposed on Saturday by their weak bench, and now that the games are coming thick and fast, Pochettino’s men will need to find an extra gear, if they are to see out the Christmas period with a win tomorrow.
It could actually be argued that Spurs need to sign three top class players in January, if they are to mount a sustained push for the Premier League title, but with Poch’s history of January deals, that seems unlikely to say the least.
And should Tottenham fail to strengthen in January, it could be a long, hard second half of the season for them.
