Tottenham Hotspur are set to travel to Hong Kong after the competitive season finishes to play a friendly.
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur’s players have been left unhappy with Daniel Levy’s decision to send them on a post-season tour to Hong Kong.
Spurs will have the added demand of playing a match in Asia, after the competitive season finishes.
Although many of Spurs’ key players are away representing their respective countries on international duty, those who are still around at White Hart Lane will be required to travel.
Spurs’ squad are said to have been left shocked at the decision, but Mauricio Pochettino’s quotes back in 2015 suggest that Levy is only acting on his advice.
Tottenham are keen to increase their revenue streams from overseas markets, and feel that playing a friendly in Hong Kong will increase their popularity.
Spurs have been keen to travel abroad to play friendlies in recent times, and the Lilywhites went to Australia in 2015.
And Pochettino’s quotes about that tour show that the decision to send Spurs’ players away for a post-season friendly, rather than a pre-season one, was his own.
“It’s important because we’re trying to avoid going on tour during pre-season,” the Argentine boss said to the Daily Express.
“It’s never proper for the team to go to Asia or America at the beginning of the season to spend time doing commercial business.
“I’ve had bad experiences of tours, when you’re going far away. Experiences as a player helps as a manager. It can upset your preparations.
“So we’d rather do it post-season. Then, for pre-season, we’ll be in England. The weather is very good – I love it.”
