Would he swap the Premier League for the Scottish Premiership if Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were interested?

Rangers boss Graeme Murty confirmed to the club’s official website this week that Lee Wallace has suffered a setback in his return from a groin injury.

The Gers’ left-back has been absent with the problem since way back in September and although he was close to a return, his latest niggle has caused a potentially-worrisome delay.

The 30-year-old – also Rangers captain – has been a massive player for the Ibrox side down the years and time will tell if he returns the same player.

Declan John has proven himself a very impressive deputy ithas to be said, but even still, signing another left-back wouldn’t go amiss this summer and should the club’s Director of Football Mark Allen consider a current Newcastle United man?

Massadio Haidara would hardly represent a marquee signing by the Glasgow giants, but he is a talented left-back and The Northern Echo reported on Wednesday that the 25-year-old’s contract would not be extended.

Consequently, Haidara, who last played for the Magpies in January, is likely to be available on a free transfer and Rangers could do a lot worse, if Wallace struggles to recapture his pre-injury form.

Wages could be an issue, with the French defender rumoured to be on around £90,000 per month – or £22,500 a week – in the North East. Rangers wouldn’t match those figures, but the reality is that Haidara won’t find a club willing to match his salary. He will have to accept a paycut anywhere he goes and that means the Gers could stake a claim.
