Alan Pardew’s future as West Bromwich Albion manager looks to be in the balance, with the Daily Mail reporting defeat at Watford on Saturday will see him sacked.
This comes after the Baggies suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town at the weekend; a result that keeps them bottom of the Premier League table and seven points from safety.
Many expected Pardew to be axed following the loss at the Hawthorns, but if the 56-year-old goes following the upcoming game at Vicarage Road then who will replace him?
Well Marco Silva, sacked by the Hornets in January, was believed to be in the frame but the same report claims that the Portuguese is setting his sights higher than West Brom.
Is this a good decision from Silva? Well on the face of it, yes.
It would take a remarkable turnaround in form to keep a team that have won just three league matches all season in the top flight with only ten fixtures left to go.
If Silva were to achieve it his stock would be sky high, but at the same time his reputation in England could be greatly tarnished with relegation in successive seasons (having also taken Hull City down in 2016/17) and a sacking sandwiched in between.
While that doesn’t tell the whole story – the 40-year-old almost kept Hull up against the odds after succeeding Mike Phelan and some feel Watford were harsh to dismiss him when they were tenth in the table – avoiding another mark on his CV and waiting until the summer to look for another job would seem to be a sensible decision.
