Leeds are once again linked with Manchester United striker James Wilson but is he even an attractive prospect anymore?
James Wilson of Manchester United sees goalkeeper Tomas Mejias of Middlesbrough gather the ball after an attack during the Capital One Cup Fourth Round match.
Leeds United have shown fresh interest in Manchester United striker James Wilson, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post, after Sheffield United joined the race for his signature.
Linked with Wilson earlier in the year, it now seems that Leeds are considering trying to beat the Blades to a forward who could be set for another loan move from Old Trafford.
Thomas Christiansen, manager of Leeds United, looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, while once an exciting prospect for the Red Devils after scoring twice against Hull City in a Premier League clash in 2014 aged just 18-years-old, things haven’t really kicked on from then as many predicted.
That has partly been due to injury, but now aged 22 the forward has only played 51 competitive first team matches and scored nine goals.
James Wilson of Brighton and Hove Albion takes a shot on goal under pressure from Marcus Olsson of Derby County during the Sky Bet Championship match.
Previous loan moves to the Championship have not been particularly productive either, with Wilson netting five times in 27 appearances for Brighton and Hove Albion in 2015/16 and then having his time at Derby County ended after just four games the following season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
The United academy graduate has not played first team football since then and while he is back in action for the Under-23s, perhaps the Whites would be better focusing their attention elsewhere for attacking support.
