The Tottenham goalkeeper has made some avoidable errors this season.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has assembled a strong squad, with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris an integral part of his plans.
However, there have been some concerning moments this season to suggest that the Frenchman, who turned 31 yesterday, isn’t a reliable enough option if Tottenham are to challenge for major honours.
Although he is capable of making fine stops, Lloris also has a tendency to make costly errors.
He made two mistakes in the 5-2 victory at home to Southampton yesterday, which resulted in goals for Sofiane Boufal and Dusan Tadic and looked rather unconvincing throughout the game.
Lloris is undoubtedly still one of the standout goalkeepers in the league but his lapses in concentration are rather concerning and will be punished at the highest level, especially if Tottenham go far in the Champions League.
Signing a new goalkeeper may not be the most pressing issue for Tottenham at present, as Pochettino is still working on getting the correct balance in midfield and is also attempting to ensure that his side can cope without the injured Toby Alderweireld.
However, in the long term, there is an increasing amount of evidence to suggest that Lloris, as talented as he is, may not be reliable enough if Tottenham are to fulfil their ambitions of becoming a dominant force domestically and in Europe.
