Aston Villa have sent one of their young players out on loan today. Riccardo Calder has headed to Lincoln City until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old will be available for the FA Cup tie against Arsenal this weekend if the Imps decide to call upon him.

For Calder, this loan spell may be his final chance to impress those waiting at Aston Villa.

The powerful midfielder, who can play on the left or centrally and even at left-back came through the ranks at Villa showing plenty of promise. An England under-17 international the hope was he might go on to become an Aston Villa first-teamer – especially after helping his side win the NextGen Series in 2013.

But he has struggled to make any impact with the club.

Last season he had a fairly forgettable stint on loan at Scottish side Dundee. He joined Doncaster Rovers on loan in March and that deal was extended in the summer. But he fell out of favour at the Keepmoat toward the end of his loan deal and let go in January.

Calder, whose contract at Aston Villa expires in the summer, will know this may be his final chance to prove himself worthy at the club.
