Vardy has five goals in seven games for club and country, almost as many as in his 31 previous matches.
England’s Jamie Vardy
Jamie Vardy’s goal for England against Lithuania in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory was the striker’s fifth goal in seven games for club and country.
The 30-year-old had managed just six in 31 in all competitions before that as he, like much of the Leicester City squad, marked last season’s highs with some almighty lows in 2016/17.
During the Foxes’ Premier League title-winning campaign of 2015/16, Vardy scored 24 club goals – including in a record 11 consecutive matches – and four more for his country.
The forward’s sudden return to form is no coincidence, coming after the sacking of Claudio Ranieri as Leicester manager; the first of this current run was scored in the 2-1 Champions League defeat at Sevilla, Ranieri’s last game in charge.
Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy
The shackles of expectation that came with last year’s unprecedented success seemed to have been lifted and it is the Foxes and England who are reaping the benefits when it comes to Vardy.
With constant runs in behind, quick feet and sharp finishing, could the attacker be proving that he is not in fact a one season wonder at the top?
