The Northern Echo reported this morning that Leeds United want Burnley defender Ben Gibson.

United are majorly low on centre-back options after losing no fewer than four of them this summer – Paudie O’Connor, Oriol Rey, Aapo Halme and Pontus Jansson.

And it looks like Leeds are keen on the 26-year-old.

It’s been a rotten 12 months for Gibson, who set Burnley back around £15 million last summer [BBC Sport] and yet made only one Premier League appearance last term.

But Elland Road might be the perfect place for the former Middlesbrough star to rebuild his career.

This is a player who was linked with a move to Everton prior to moving to Turf Moor [The Daily Star, 10-06-2018]. There’s no question that the talent is there, but the confidence isn’t at this moment in time and Marcelo Bielsa could change that.

The Leeds boss is one of the best man-managers around and someone of his experience could definitely be a great help to Gibson right now.

Jack Clarke secured a high-profile move to Tottenham this summer after only one season under the 64-year-old.

Given his Everton link, you could argue that Gibson has lost his way a tad over the past year, but Bielsa could give him some direction again.
