Leeds United’s recent under-23 squads have seen a smattering of mystery trialists, the identity of which was finally unveiled during the club’s trip to Ireland earlier this month.

Aaron Splaine, Jack Boyle and Mitja Krizan were all named on the team sheet for the under-23 clash against Shamrock Rovers on 12 February, having previously been known as numbers only, but has the latest team selection pointed to a decision on all three?

After all, Monday’s clash with Huddersfield Town saw no trialists on show, and while Boyle’s absence may be explained by the fact that he is owned by the Tykes, there is no such promising news for Splaine or Krizan.

Given the results that Leeds’ under-23s have endured in recent weeks, it would be no surprise if first-team manager Garry Monk opted not to turn the trials into permanent deals.

Krizan in particular will have been hoping to get a goal or two to justify his inclusion but he may now be heading back to NK Celje.

After all, these days it takes quite a talent to standout in Leeds’ impressive academy setup.
