The Tottenham Hotspur right-back could follow Harry Winks into the senior side.
On Sunday, Harry Winks became the latest Tottenham Hotspur player to make his senior England debut, and the 21-year-old impressed with his composure on the ball and his passing range against Lithuania. So who could be the next Spurs youngster targeting a Three Lions breakthrough?
For a while it looked like Marcus Edwards would be fast-tracked into Tottenham’s senior side, but the 18-year-old remains a somewhat mysterious figure as Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino opts to continue his development with the second string.
But while Edwards waits patiently for his chances at Tottenham, full-back Kyle Walker-Peters is seizing his with both hands, and the 20-year-old defender looks on the right path to make his mark for the senior England team in due course.
Much like Winks before him, Walker-Peters has been slowly and effectively integrated into Tottenham’s first-team squad, initially training with the stars and then given chances to prove his worth.
This season the versatile defender has featured three times for Spurs, impressing in a 90-minute showing against Newcastle United, getting eight minutes against Huddersfield Town last time out and doing a fine job in the EFL Cup victory against Barnsley last month.
Now an England under-21 international, Walker-Peters previously turned out 10 times for England’s under-20s, 12 times for their under-19s and six times for the under-18s, and it is clear he is making steady progress in that regard.
While England are relatively well stocked with full-backs right now, Walker-Peters’ ability to play on either flank gives him an advantage, and while he is predominantly a right-back, he will not complain wherever he is asked to play and in whichever formation.
