Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a regular fixture under Ronald Koeman this season, so with the Dutchman now gone, what comes next for the youngster?
With Ronald Koeman given his marching orders following a dire start to the season earlier in the week, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be one player who sees his first-team chances limited.
The former Sheffield United forward has featured eight times this season for The Toffees and was regularly deployed alongside Wayne Rooney or Sandro Ramirez as a makeshift striker by Koeman as the Dutchman chopped and changed his tactics in search of the fix for Everton’s woes.
Sean Dyche has been touted as the potential replacement for Koeman at Goodison Park and you have to fear that Calvert-Lewin’s first team opportunities may dwindle now the Dutchman’s tenure at the club is over, with Koeman showing plenty of faith in the youngster.
Everton’s abundance of midfielders has been a large part of the problem this season, with summer signings Davy Klaassen and Gylfi Sigurdsson yet to find their feet, Tom Davies still in the fray and Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez both fairly ineffective as traditional number 9s. Calvert-Lewin has been given the chance up top on several occasions but has often found himself shunted to another position the next week.
The England youth international has not yet found his best role and it’s not clear as to whether he’s best played through the middle or out wide. With a new manager coming in, and possible opportunities given to the likes of Kevin Mirallas in an attempt to change the club’s fortunes, the 20-year-old may struggle to get the same exposure as under Koeman.
