Rangers look to have missed out on St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan and Brighton’s Jamie Murphy – so now want Killie’s Scottish Premiership star Jordan Jones.

With less than a fortnight until the January transfer window swings open, Rangers’ links with Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones have emerged out of nowhere.

Director of Football Mark Allen is set to take a leading role in recruitment in January with the club still without a permanent manager and the Sunday Post claim that he is on the lookout for talented youngsters who have proven themselves in the Scottish top flight.

And Killie’s Northern Ireland international Jordan Jones is understood to be on Allen’s list along with Dundee centre-back Jack Hendry.

But it’s tempting to wonder whether the former Middlesbrough youngster is a priority for Rangers – or merely a back-up option if their top targets slip through their grasp.

The Sunday Post, after all, reports that Rangers are still hopeful of bringing Jamie Walker to Ibrox from Hearts and want to strike a pre-contract agreement in January with the winger set to be a free agent at the end of the season.

But after Rangers failed to seal the deal in the summer, Walker suggested to the Daily Record that he might have been put off a move to Ibrox.

And it seems as if former Rangers youngster Lewis Morgan is set to sign for Old Firm rivals Celtic instead, per the Scottish Sun, while Brighton have made clear that reported £1.2 million target Jamie Murphy is not for sale (Daily Record).

So, for all of Jones’ talent and potential, he is the fourth left winger to be linked with Rangers in recent times – and may have only come to the fore with the other three looking unlikely to arrive at Ibrox.
