Fan favourite Kieran Tierney signalled his commitment to Celtic by signing a new six-year deal with the Scottish champions on Monday.

According to The Sun, the 20-year-old left-back’s rapid rise had caught the attention of the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Although Tierney putting pen to paper is an indication that he won’t be going anywhere soon, no length of contract is going to deter those suitors who see him for what he is – one of the best young defenders in Europe.

Tierney is a boyhood Celtic fan living his dream, but the lure of a move to a higher-paying Premier League club with a greater chance of competing in the Champions League would surely be difficult to resist.

The key to Celtic keeping Tierney amidst this interest might be Brendan Rodgers, who has an excellent track record for developing youngsters.

But Tierney is not the only one with admirers down south and, if Rodgers were to get the call to return to the Premier League, he may want to take the player with him.

Rodgers is the best possible manager that the Bhoys could attract and any replacement may have a difficult job persuading Tierney he can fulfil his ambitions in Scotland.

While he remains Celtic manager, Tierney will likely stay too. But after the Rodgers regime there is no guarantee.
