Rangers earned an excellent 4-1 win over St. Johnstone on Tuesday night.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

There were plenty of positives from Tuesday night’s win over St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park for Rangers boss Graeme Murty, but a decision is yet to be made over the future of veteran striker Kenny Miller.

Murty’s attacking midfield trio of Josh Windass, Jamie Murphy and Daniel Candeias once again provided the difference by putting Tommy Wright’s side to the sword, while Alfredo Morelos notched his 13th league goal of the season.

The Colombian is now at the top of the Scottish Premiership goalscoring charts, while new signings Sean Goss and Greg Docherty combined impeccably in central midfielder. QPR loanee Goss even scored his second goal for the Gers.

But an emanating negative continues to brew under the surface at Ibrox, as the future of 38-year-old Miller remains in doubt after being left on the substitutes’ bench by Murty once again.

Since the former Scotland and Celtic striker recovered from a ruptured hamstring, he has featured just once in the league as an 11-minute sub against Hamilton, remaining unused on the bench three times.

Miller’s current Ibrox contract expires at the end of May and he desperately needs consistent game time to prove to Murty that he is deserving of an extended Rangers contract.

Murty only used two substitutes against St. Johnstone and his refusal to introduce the veteran even for the latter stages of the comfortable win will surely come as a worry to Miller, who is running out of time at Ibrox.

The versatile forward is losing his fight to earn a new Rangers deal, with Jason Cummings considered second choice to Morelos and the trio of Windass, Murphy and Candeias keeping Miller out of the side.

Unless he is afforded regular game time from now until the end of the season, Miller is unlikely to earn a new deal. But it does not look promising for the journeyman striker.
