Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers won their first competitive match of the season, but Steven Gerrard has already had to defend Josh Windass.

Josh Windass’ future at Glasgow Rangers may have fallen into doubt once again, after his first showing at Ibrox this season.
Windass was selected to start for Rangers in their Europa League tie with Shkupi, but he put in a poor showing.
Rangers won the tie 2-0, but the reaction to Windass’ display was noted by Gerrard.
Gerrard defended Windass in the Scottish Sun, saying: “Josh will deal with that, he’s a strong lad and the only way to win fans over is to score goals.
“They are desperate for goals and desperate to be entertained and win games. So are we, we all feel it on the sides.
“But I thought Josh worked his socks off and could easily have come off the pitch with a couple of goals.”
However, Windass may have just put himself under significant pressure, if he is to keep his place at Rangers.

Windass has already been linked with a £3 million move away from Glasgow this summer (Daily Express), but it seemed that Gerrard wanted to keep the former Accrington man.
The reaction to Windass’ showing cannot be ignored though, and it may be that Rangers just isn’t the right place for him to develop anymore.
Gerrard can ill afford for any divisive issues at Ibrox this season, as he needs everyone behind the team.
And it may be that Gerrard has to consider Windass’ future all over again, after the reaction to the Rangers man’s last display.
