Newcastle United signed the striker earlier this summer and he impressed against Swansea City.

It is fair to say that Newcastle United did not have the best of summer transfer windows, but whatever manager Rafa Benitez thinks of the business done (and not done) at St. James’ Park this summer, he is now tasked with ensuring the players he has at his disposal perform to the best of their ability.

Among the players Newcastle did manage to sign in the recent window was Stoke City striker Joselu, and while the 27-year-old was an uninspiring addition to some, he is proving to be a fine addition to the Magpies’ squad.

The Spaniard made his third appearance for Newcastle when they took on Swansea City on Sunday, and while he did not get on the score sheet he impressed with his work rate and ability on the ball.

After finding the net in the 3-0 victory against West Ham United prior to the international break, Joselu did everything but at the weekend, and on early evidence the Newcastle faithful have a new fan favourite.

With Florian Lejeune, Mikel Moreno, Javier Manquillo and Jacob Murphy also impressing (to varying degrees) in their early outings for the club, it seems Benitez worked wonders with his limited budget.

Joselu only managed four goals and four assists in 24 appearances for Stoke, but he should get plenty more for Newcastle while his build-up play and excellent attitude mean he should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Joselu may never be a 20-goal a season striker, but what he lacks in that regard he more than makes up for with his ability to play the perfect foil for those behind him and that should not be underestimated.
