Is Joe Gomez going to be Liverpool’s next player to be worth a nine-figure amount?

Liverpool sanctioned the exit of Ragnar Klavan on Friday. The Estonia international left Liverpool to join Cagliari in a £2 million deal, having spent two years on Merseyside.
Jurgen Klopp’s decision to sell him could and probably does indicate that the German manager will use Joe Gomez – signed as a full-back by Brendan Rodgers in 2015 – as a centre-back this season.
And could the 21-year-old Londoner see his value skyrocket over the next nine months or so?
Gomez is already a massive talent but a season alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence could help to take his game to the next level entirely.
The former Charlton Athletic man, contracted to Anfield until 2022, is already valued at close to £60 million by Liverpool, according to CIES Football Observatory.
But is it possible that a solid and successful season in the Reds’ back four could result in his value spiking to reach the nine-figure mark by next summer? In the modern market it does not seem that unlikely.
Klopp also has Dejan Lovren – who is injured at the moment – and Joel Matip as centre-back options, but Gomez impressed against West Ham United last weekend and another good performance at Crystal Palace on Monday night will mean that it’s his place to lose.
The German manager obviously trusts him, evident by his decision to offload Klavan, and this season could well be the making of Gomez.
