The Newcastle United full-back is disappointing week after week.

When Newcastle United signed Javier Manquillo last summer, few Magpies fans were elated by the arrival of a player who had struggled on loan at Sunderland the previous year.
Some were willing to give the 23-year-old the benefit of the doubt and there were glimpses of a half-decent player in the early weeks of the campaign.

However, a switch to left-back has seemingly robbed Manquillo of all his confidence and his performances are consistently woeful for a Magpies side in desperate need of some quality.
While it would be easy to point to his positional change as the sole reason for Manquillo’s problems, it seems deeper than that. After all, the Spaniard’s head appears to have gone, leaving some Newcastle supporters to question how is getting on the field even with few alternatives.

Given his previous struggles in English football, and the fact that he was sent on loan after loan by his former club Atletico Madrid before Newcastle signed him permanently, it is hard to imagine Manquillo ever becoming a hit at St. James’ Park.
Some players simply need time to settle, but the defender looks out of his depth and beyond salvation, even at this early stage of his Newcastle career.
