Glasgow Rangers have had a decent start to the new campaign and their right-back has impressed more often than not.

Rangers signed so many players back in the summer that it was always going to take time for them all to settle at Ibrox, and when it comes to headline performances so far, new additions Alfredo Morelos, Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack have excelled, while Daniel Candeias’s influence is growing by the week.

But there is another Rangers player who deserves plenty of credit of his own, even if his performances rarely generate headlines and some Gers fans are still torn when it comes to his defensive output.

James Tavernier of Rangers controls the ball during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

That man is James Tavernier, who has played every minute of Rangers’ last seven Scottish Premiership matches and looks set for a standout campaign under manager Pedro Caixinha.

Tavernier may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there is no doubt his attacking qualities have come to the fore this season, with the 26-year-old already scoring two goals and setting up three more.

His tireless running and constant threat down the flank is also vital for a Ranger side still in transition, and he has adapted well to this new-look Gers side.

Considering the massive changes of centre-back, Tavernier was always going to take time to get used to the club’s new additions, but on early evidence the Rangers stalwart has the chance to reach another level this season and finally win over the remaining doubters.

Caixinha knows what he is doing and he is getting the best out of some of the players he inherited as well as the majority of his summer acquisitions, with Tavernier’s position at right-back seemingly secured for the foreseeable future.
