The Newcastle winger has mainly been used as a substitute so far.

Jacob Murphy has had to be rather patient for opportunities to impress since joining Newcastle United from Norwich City in the summer.

However, the winger, who was previously an England U21 international, is now becoming increasingly involved for Rafael Benitez and was named in the starting line-up for the Premier League defeat away to Manchester United last weekend.

The aim now for Murphy will certainly be to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up for Newcastle and he will hope to feature from the outset in tomorrow’s game at home to Watford.

Murphy certainly possesses some useful qualities, with his pace and dribbling often causing all manner of problems for opposing defences.

However, the 22-year-old needs to become more ruthless in front of goal in order to convince Benitez that he is a player that can be relied upon.

Murphy scored eight goals for Norwich in the Championship last season but has never been a player who finds the net with regularity.

Newcastle need a regular source of goals in their side – their joint top scorers this season are Joselu and defender Jamaal Lascelles, both of whom have scored twice.

Despite there being much that’s impressive about his overall play, Murphy doesn’t seem as if he will be the answer to Newcastle’s goalscoring struggles and at present it appears that the best option would be to use him as a substitute so that he can make use of his pace against tiring defenders and deliver some dangerous crosses in the closing stages of games.
