Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen on the 26-year-old.
England boss Gareth Southgate omitted Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere from his World Cup squad on Tuesday – and could it be a boost for Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers?
The Birmingham Mail reported this week that Wolves have spoken to Wilshere’s representatives about signing the Arsenal product, whose contract in North London expires this summer.
Meanwhile, Everton are also rumoured to be interested in the 26-year-old after Football London claimed last month that the Toffees were “increasingly confident” of getting their man.
Going to Russia with the Three Lions this summer would have given Wilshere – who earns £90,000 per week, according to Total Sportek – a big chance to significantly ramp up interest and make him a hugely sought-after talent, had he impressed at the competition.
But the fact that he hasn’t made the squad should, in theory, mean that he won’t be bombarded with interest if he doesn’t extend his contract with the Gunners, which is surely good for Everton and Wolves’ hopes of signing him.
The less clubs involved in the race, the better for those two Premier League sides and although some Italian outfits are rumoured to be keen – namely AC Milan and Juventus – it would’ve been a lot worse for all interested parties had Wilshere lit up Russia next month.
