Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers won’t like recent comments by Scott McKenna.
Rodgers seemed to be the only manager keen on McKenna for so much of last summer, with The Record claiming that Celtic saw a £3.5 million bid turned down by Aberdeen.
But there are now other clubs seemingly interested – and the Dons centre-back doesn’t seem to be complaining.
The 22-year-old, who is now linked with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, told The Scotsman this past weekend that a move down South interests him and you have to imagine that it means the Bhoys’ chances of signing him are dead.
McKenna, valued at £10 million by Aberdeen [The Record], will be acutely aware of how well John McGinn is doing at Aston Villa and a move to Villa Park might well interest him.
But Wolves are a Premier League side, and turning down a top-flight English club for Celtic just doesn’t seem all that likely, if indeed the Molineux club are genuinely interested.
The ship has more than likely already sailed for Rodgers, and you wonder why the Northern Irishman didn’t push the boat out when he had the chance.
Offering £3.5 million was never going to tempt Dons boss Derek McInnes. It’s the same dithering that saw Rodgers miss out on McGinn to Aston Villa, and the fact that the very same thing could happen again is unforgivable.
