Spurs are finding it difficult to break down teams who sit behind the ball at Wembley – their win against Dortmund came against a side who naively came forward and let them counter attack.
The team is crying out for a spark, and they should look no further than talented wonderkid Marcus Edwards.
The England youth international is an exciting talent, who made a brief first team debut last season in the EFL Cup.
The clash with Barnsley this week provides a chance to test him out again, but Spurs should also consider giving him a prominent role in the Premier League.
Edwards can provide the unexpected, and test defences with his unpredictability and willingness to run with the ball.
It will open up space for the rest of their attackers to do the damage, even if he does not inflict it directly himself.
Aside from a crunching London derby away to West Ham, Spurs follow up next month with matches against Huddersfield and Bournemouth.
While not underestimating their opponents, Spurs should consider unleashing Edwards and seeing if he can make an impact, especially with their attacking options already stretched as they balance the Champions League with domestic competition.
Edwards has impressed for the under-23s this season and struck in the UEFA Youth League last week too, also netting on youth duty with England earlier this month.
If Spurs can get a good look at Edwards and how he fits into the first team picture before January, it could even save them millions in the transfer market in January.
