Glasgow Rangers loanee Lassana Coulibaly has struggled to rediscover the form that he showed during his first few weeks at Ibrox.

Shortly after the summer transfer window, it appeared that Lassana Coulibaly was going to prove to be an incredible find for Rangers after the midfielder produced a number of outstanding performances immediately after arriving at Ibrox on loan.

In fact, the 22-year-old was arguably the most impressive midfielder in Steven Gerrard’s squad during the opening weeks of the campaign. But after returning from an injury early on in the season, something did not quite seem to be the same.

Coulibaly has come in for a decent amount of criticism in recent months as he struggles to rediscover the form he initially showed. Unfortunately, he seems to be treading the same path as Sean Goss who experienced a sharp decline and largely fell off the radar after a stunning start to a loan spell with the Gers last year.

Unless it does all click for Coulibaly once again during the remaining weeks of the season, it would arguably be a big surprise if Gerrard instructed the board to try and turn the midfielder’s loan into a permanent deal.

Rangers are well-stocked in the middle of the park. And that should perhaps leave Gerrard wondering whether it makes sense to continue using the summer signing if his future does indeed lie away from Ibrox.

The Gers appear to now have too much ground to make up in the Scottish Premiership title race, so it may not be too long before Gerrard decides to switch some of his focus towards next season.

Of course, if Gerrard is still undecided on whether he would like to keep Coulibaly, then giving him minutes makes a lot of sense.

But with the midfielder’s form showing few signs of improving, perhaps Gerrard’s focus during the remaining weeks of the campaign should arguably be on the players that look set to have key roles at Ibrox next season.
