Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matt Doherty has been mightily impressive this season.
Matt Doherty has been quite simply brilliant for Wolves over the past few seasons, and he has taken the Premier League by storm this term.
The 26-year-old has chalked up an impressive three goals and three assists for Wolves this season, all from the right wing-back position, and he is undoubtedly one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s most important players.
Doherty’s energy and stamina down the Black Country outfit’s right hand side has proven to be vital to the way in which his side operate.
So, could it be argued that the Republic of Ireland international is actually the best right wing-back in the Premier League?
The simple answer to that question is yes.
There are obvious challengers to the crown of the league’s best right-back, including the likes of Hector Bellerin, Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Tripper.
None of those four players have scored as many goals as Doherty, however, whilst only Bellerin has chalked up more assists.
It must also be noted that out of the all the players mentioned, the Irishman is probably the most important to his respective club, in the sense that Nuno doesn’t really have a like-for-like replacement for him.
If Wolves are to have a successful season, it will be paramount that Doherty maintains his fine form between now and May.
And if he does just that, he will surely find himself in the Premier League team of the year at the end of the campaign.
