Is it Florian Lejeune’s time to shine at Newcastle United?

Newcastle United are enjoying a decent transfer window so far.
Rafael Benitez has signed Martin Dubravka and Ki Sung-yeung on permanent deals, while Kenedy has signed up for another loan spell at St James’s Park.
With less than a month to go before the window shuts, Benitez is certain to continue to strengthen Newcastle, but could one of their best players next season be someone who joined last summer?
Florian Lejeune joined the Magpies for £8.7 million [The Guardian] last June and endured a very mixed first season in the North-East, it must be said.
The French centre-back was relatively underwhelming for much of the 2017-18 campaign, but for the final few months he was exceptional alongside Jamaal Lascelles and perhaps he is now ready to kick on this time around.
The 27-year-old was a first-team regular during Newcastle’s brilliant form from February onwards and it would be a massive shame if he were to regress.
Sometimes foreign imports can take six months to a year to adapt to the pace of the Premier League, but if the second half of last season is anything to go by then Lejeune is very comfortable and whatever United achieve next season, he could be a big part of it.
For £8.7 million, Lejeune could prove to be a serious bargain.
