Celtic have a lot of players competing for limited positions.

While many of Celtic’s first-team stars pick themselves, there are those Bhoys players who are struggling for the smallest scrap of a chance, with midfielders Liam Henderson and Eboue Kouassi two such examples.

The latter started Celtic’s league match against Dundee on Saturday, while the latter came off the bench late on to make his first league appearance of the campaign. So with Kouassi’s own bit-part role – at least in the short term – are the pair competing to be the Bhoys’ back-up midfielder of choice.

Kouassi’s recent return from injury means he will be hoping to get more chances in the months ahead, but the presence of so many quality midfielders at Celtic Park means that will not come easy.

Henderson will know better than most how hard it is to make the grade at Celtic, with the 21-year-old racking up 37 appearances for the Bhoys but barely featuring this season or last.

Eboue Kouassi of Celtic arrives at the stadium prior to the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 12, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

In time both men will be hoping to be regular starters for Brendan Rodgers’ side, but one wonders if – despite their slightly different areas of expertise – it will be a case of one or the other.

Both are likely to be watching on as Celtic take on Bayern Munich this evening, but with the matches coming thick and fast they could be set to enjoy their own battle for first-team recognition when circumstances allow.
